Runescape Password Scams

by: Latona

- Jagex blocks your password:
This is a common runescape scam when people walk around saying Jagex now blocks your password. They will try and fool you by saying My password is *******. They hope you believe them and then you try typing the same phrase but instead of you using the ****** you put your actual password. This is all they need as they now have both your username and your password and can easily gain access to your account and take all items they can.

- never tell anyone your runescape password:
There are many people who will try and get your password in various ways. They will pretend to be friends and pretend to be helping you but at the end of the day they have only one desire, to gain access to your account and take your items that you worked hard for.

- Someone asks you to change to a specific password:
Simply dont do this they will steal your bank items or what your wearing. This is a common scam aimed at lower level players normally. In general, somone will ask you to change your password to a specific password for various reasons - maybe so they can help you level your account, or get equipment for you or help on a quest etc. Simply do not change your password as when they have access to your account they will just take the items they can and laugh at you for being gullible enough to change your password in the first place.

This set of runescape scams is not exhaustive but will let players realise how careful they should be when speaking about their runescape account. Remember, always be cautious as there are players who simply want to hijack your account to take your items and hard earned runescape gold.

Players who want to help prevent scams can add any additional runescape password scams onto this guide or any of the other guides in this section. In addition, the players who are wanting to help protect their accounts further may be interested in reading the related articles for other runescape scams as listed below:

The list above is not an exhaustive list of resources, but it will help reduce risks of an account becoming compromised. Any player is invited to add information relating to any other scam on runescape that they are aware of, so that it may be used to help inform other players so that they do not become the next victim.

not in the forums, but in the actual game of rs2, if u say ur password in a sentence it wont let u say ANY of the sentence. it will come up with a message something like the following : "you are trying to tell someone your password! please dont! if you weren't, please change your password to something more obscure."

Yes, Jagex updated this ingame as many people where stupidly revealing their passwords ingame. However, all players should still remember to never use their runescape password on any fan site - only ever use it for the game and never reveal it anywhere online.
