Runescape Scam Prevention
by: Latona
- Keep anti-spyware current and active:
If you keep all your anti-spyware software up to date and active then you reduce your
chances of being infected by virus'. It does not eliminiate your chances or make
you 100% safe although it certainly makes it less likely that you become
infected.
- Regular scans with up-to-date definitions:
It is not only important that you keep your anti-spyware software up to date, but also
to regularly scan your computer. It is no use simply having the most current
spyware definitions if you do not scan your computer as well. This will help reduce the chances of losing your runescape account to a scammer, but will not totally prevent you from being a potential victim to runescape scams.
- Use
smart passwords, not common words:
Mix your password with lowercase
letters and uppercase letters as well as numbers. Do not have silly things as
your password ie 'mypass' 'runescape' 'qwerty' 'asdfgh' 'zxcvbn' . Create unique
passwords that dont match any specific word and that are not all sitting next to
each other on the standard keyboard. Mix in numbers that are not your date of
birth or any other data that you may let slip easily in conversations on any
messenger service or ingame messages.
- Runescape Password:
1. NEVER tell
anyone your password for any reason
2. NEVER use your runescape password on
another site
3. ONLY ever logon from the main runescape site
