Cooking in Runescape FAQ

by: Latona

This is a collection of frequently asked questions for cooking on runescape and helping you understand the skill more. If you have any questions that are not answered here then do not hesitate to submit your question either via email or registering on the forums and sending a personal message. If the question is suitable and relevant it will be added to this compilation for inclusion to benefit other runescape players who may have the same query as you.

1.How can I lower the rate I burn food when cooking it?
If you cook all your food on a range rather than on a log fire you will reduce the amount of food that you burn. For non-members there is no addtional way to prevent burning food apart from getting higher levels in the cooking skill. Members on the other hand can wear cooking gauntlets received from completing the Family Crest Quest.

2.Does it matter which range I use to cook my food?
Generally cooking food on any range is fine. However, the range located at Lumbridge will mean you burn less food than on other ranges.

3.What is the quickest way to train cooking?
To level cooking skill quickly you should trade cooked food for raw food. This will enable you to quickly cook the food on a range using the cook x option rather than having to spend time gathering up more raw food yourself. Generally raw food will sell for slightly higher than cooked food so you should be expected to bear some loss in money. The main benefit is that you raise your cooking level quicker and reduce chances of burning any food.

4.What exactly does cook x option do?
In simple terms, the cook x option will allow you to cook your full inventory of food with one click of the button. Previously all food had to be cooked individually and was quite a time consuming method. The cook x option is therefore very useful in reducing your training time and increasing your cooking skill experience.

5.Why is a high cooking level useful?
The higher your cooking level the more foodstuff you will be able to cook. Generally food that requires a high cooking level will also heal more hitpoints and cost more money to buy. If you can cook your own high level food you can potentially save a lot of money OR make money by selling high level cooked food.

6.Does wearing a Chefs Hat help my cooking?
No. The Chefs Hat has one purpose and that is to allow you to access the Cooking guild near Varrock. Players will need a cooking level of 30 to enter the cooking guild.

7.What is the best food to cook when training my cooking skill?
The best food to cook is usually something that you can easily acquire in bulk. Generally fish are the best used for training your cooking skill as they are easily caught and are highly traded among other players. Once you get to be able to successfully cook lobsters without burning them, then training by cooking lobsters will possibly offer the best way for you to train.
