Firemaking in Runescape FAQ

This is a collection of frequently asked questions for firemaking on runescape and helping you understand the skill more. 1. Why should I raise my firemaking skill if I only cook my food on a range?
Firemaking is a useful skill to have as you can cook food anywhere when you have a tinderbox, hatchet and some logs. The firemaking skill also enables you to ignite other lightsources such as a bullseye lantern. This can protect you from death in dark caves. Finally, for members, they can use their firemaking skill at Shades of Mort'on to get keys that let them open chests in the temple at Mort'on that may give them 'Fine Cloth' which is used to make Splitbark Armour. The chests also contain other items that may be sold or high alched for cash.

2. If I have a high firemaking level will my logs burn for longer?
No, the level of firemaking has no influence over how long logs will burn. It simply means that you can burn better quality logs and thereby gain more experience from burning the higher level logs.

3. What is the best way to train firemaking on non-member servers?
Initially you will burn normal logs and raise your level. You can change to burning oak logs when you get the right level or continue burning until you can ignite Willow Logs. When you can burn willow logs then simply stock a large amount in your bank and start firemaking near a bank. Willow logs are quick to cut or cheap to buy and as such offer a very useful method to improve your firemaking skill cheaply.
