Fishing in Runescape FAQ

by: Latona

This is a collection of frequently asked questions for fishing on runescape and helping you understand the skill more. If you have any questions that are not answered here then do not hesitate to submit your question either via email or registering on the forums and sending a personal message. If the question is suitable and relevant it will be added to this compilation for inclusion to benefit other runescape players who may have the same query as you.

1. Why should I bother with fishing when I buy all my food?
Fishing is not compulsory for anyone, however, fishing will save you a lot of cash in the long term. If you can catch high level fish then you can make a profit from selling to other players or alternatively use for your own training and thereby increasing your cooking skill.

2. What do I need to fly-fish?
You will need a fly fishing rod and some feathers. Both can be bought from any good fishing stores for a low price. Each time you catch a fish one feather will be used up. Fly-fishing offers quick training when you can fish near a bank. This is more beneficial to members who can fish at Shilo Village.

3. How can I catch Manta Ray or Sea Turtles?
Both Manta Ray and Sea Turtles are only able to be caught while doing the Fishing Trawler mini-game. Members can start the game by going to Port Khazard and entering the trawler. It should be noted that a team of players working together will have a greater chance of success as the amount of water the boat will take on will increase quickly if leaks are not repaired often enough.

4. Can I get fish any other way than fishing?
Yes, you may buy raw or cooked from other players or check fishing shops to see if other players have sold their catch to the shop. Alternatively, members can steal fish from stalls at the Fremennik Village in Rellekka and from the stall in Miscellania for players who have access. You will be able to steal Raw Tuna, Raw Salmon and Raw Lobster - all of which are useful fish to train your cooking skill.

5. What is the best way to raise my fishing skill in runescape?
Fishing in runescape is a skill that offers a variety of fish to level up with. There are several fishing tips available at the main skill guide section, although these should be used as a guideline rather than a strict training regime. Players will normally find they prefer to train their fishing skill with a variety of different fish rather than sticking to the same type all the time.
