Melee in Runescape FAQ

This is a collection of frequently asked questions for melee on runescape and helping you understand the skill more. 1. How long can I train on the dummies in Varrock?
Once you have reached level 8 attack then you will not be able to train any further on the dummies. The intention of the dummies are for very new and inexperienced players to gain some attack levels to better help them fight against low level monsters without as much risk.

2. Why is training controlled slow compared to training attack, defense or strength independently?
Training in controlled style may appear slower than specialised training although it will be training all melee stats at the same rate. Players will receive the same amount of experience to their hitpoints, attack, defense and strength. The total experience earnt will be equivalent to training either style independently although it does appear to be slower.

3. How is the amount of melee experience I get actually calculated?
The experience is generally based of the hitpoint level of the opponent you are fighting. Every time you deal a point of damage you will receive some experience. The amount of experience to any melee skill will be determined by which fighting style you have chose. If you fight in controlled style then the experience is equally divided between the melee skills and you will receive 1.3 experience to attack, defense, hitpoints and strength for every point of damage you do to your opponent. If you decide to train in accurate style then you will receive 4 experience toward you attack skill and 1.3 experience towards your hitpoints.
