Mirc Guide
by: Gizzmo5
The first step to getting mIRC and registering is dowloading the mIRC client. All runescape players should be aware they should only ever download such programmes from the official source. In this case the official mIRC website is provided below and is safe from any malware or other virus. However, all players should be careful about giving out any details of their runescape account on any mIRC channel as you never know how someone else may use that information.
Hopefully all players will find this guide somewhat useful and help them gain a further understanding of how to use mIRC to help benefit their clan communication as well as enjoy other events such as Pest Control and make communication easier overall.
First, go to the mIRC website. and click 'Download mIRC'
Then choose the download closest to your location, as it will download faster.
After you boot up mIRC a message will appear:
Just click continue and move on..A little note, even after the 30 days is up you can still use it without registering ![]()
Now type in: /server irc.swiftirc.net
This should connect you to the swiftswitch irc network, which is the largest one used by RuneScape players.
Before you continue, make sure you've read the IRC rules.
Then type in: /join #te_the_empire (or whichever clan or channel you want to join)
Next, you'll need to register. First, be sure your username is currently set
to your runescape name.
To change it to this type: /nick your runescape username.
Then you'll need to think of a password and an email address to use. Type in the following command:
/ns register password email address
After
registering check your email (note: sometimes it's in the junk email
folder for hotmail, and yahoo) The email should tell you a command to
type in (or just copy and paste) to activate the registration of your
IRC name.
Everytime you log into IRC you must type in /ns identify password to be identified, otherwise the server will automatically change your name thinking it's not the actual owner.
It's
highly recommended to register your name, if you do other people can't
use it and you can get auto commands such as autovoice in our channel
and others.
A few things to know:
Voice (+v) - Allows you to speak in channels when modded, only halfops and ops can voice people.
Halfop (+h) - Can kick and ban people, as well as voice and change channel modes.
Ops (+o) - Can kick and ban people, halfop and voice people, and change channel modes.
Moderated (+m) - When a halfop or op sets the mode +m then only voiced people can talk.
Odd users you may encounter:
Zoi - A bot that can show someone's stats in RS by using !stats
their username among other things. (For more bot commands, scroll down)
Paws - Same as Zoi.
Lalala - Same as Zoi.
Owned - A service bot used to kick people, ban people, etc. only usable by the channel owner.
X - Same as owned.
Now for some simple commands:
/nick username
/hop - Makes you hop out and back into the channel.
/whois someone's username
- Gives information about the user specified, showing the channels
they're in, their connection to the server, and their registered name
(if they id'd at one point.)
/join channel name - Joins the specified channel.
/invite username - Offers to invite someone into the channel, can be used on stat bots, but not service bots such as Owned, and X.
/ns recover username password - If someone else gets on your name, this will kick them off of it and the server will hold it until you use the next command:
/ns release username password
/msg someone else's username message - PMs someone on IRC.
Bot commands: (note: using the ! makes the result only viewable to you, @ makes everyone able to see it)
!stats username - Shows users stats
!cmb username - Shows users combat stats and how many levels to get the next combat.
!void +g99 username
- Shows how many pest control points needed to get 99 in a stat. (99
can be substituted for anything else, to find how many points to 90,
just use +g90 instead)
!lvl 99 skill - Congratulates you on the level and skill.
!str
- Shows your current strength exp as well as the exp to level and your
rank. (can be substituted for other stats such as !herblore !att etc.)
If you are curious about other commands, simply join the IRC channel #irchelp and ask them questions.
