Brewing in Runescape
by: Mark
Farming has offered a nice addition to the COOKING skill: brewing!
There are 2 breweries:
- 1 at Port Phasmatys (enter trapdoor at the inn).
- 1 at east Keldagrim, upstairs in the bar. Fastest way to get there: go to the general store in the dwarven mine north of Falador, and take the cart to Keldagrim (costs 150 gp).
How to brew ales:
1. Add 2 buckets of water to an empty vat.
2. Add 2 handfuls of barley malt (barley that has been roasted on a range).
3. Add the main ingredient.
4. Add a pot of ale yeast from from a local brewer:
- If you go to Keldagrim, take 25 gp. There is an empty pot respawn on a table there.
- If you go to Port Phasmatys, take 5 ectotokens and an empty pot (remember, you can buy empty pots at the general store in Port Phasmatys).
How to brew cider:
1. Put 4 apples into a cider-press.
2. Fill a bucket with apple-mush.
3. Pour 4 buckets of apple-mush into an empty vat.
4. Add a pot of ale yeast.
When the yeast has been added the mixture will begin to ferment, which may take anything up to a WHOLE day. Eventually the ale or cider will be ready for drinking. Simply turn the valve and the barrel will fill up with your chosen tipple. You can then fill up to 8 beer-glasses from the barrel, or alternatively, scoop the flesh out of a Calquat fruit with a knife and you have a keg that can hold 4 pints' worth by itself!"
Notes:
- The above means it works like a 4 dosed potion!
- Calquats (+ kegs) are tradeable.
Here's a table of what you can make, with required cooking levels, ingredients and exp. The effects are listed in the next post.
| Brew: | Level: | Cooking Exp: | Ingrdients: |
| Cider | 14 | 182 | 4 Buckets Apple Mush |
| Dwarven Stout | 19 | 215 | 4 Hammerstone Hops |
| Asgarnian Ale | 24 | 248 | 4 Asgarnian Hops |
| Greenman's Ale | 29 | 281 | 4 Harralander |
| Wizard Mind Bomb | 34 | 314 | 4 Yanillia Hops |

| Chef's Delight | 54 | 446 | 4 Chocolate Dust |
| Slayer's Respite | 59 | 479 | 4 Wildblood Hops |
Whenever you brew something, there are 3 possible outcomes:
- It will fail.
- It will turn out 'normal' at first (the kind that's available in bars, if the bar sells that particular ale).
- It will be 'mature', which is visible by the (m) after the beer.
Mature beers will boost your skills more than the regular kind.
Effects of Brews:
| Type: | Regular/Normal: | Mature: |
| Cider | +2 Farming -3 Attack, Strength |
+3 Farming -2 Attack, Strength |
| Dwarven Stout | +1 Smithing, Mining -5 Attack, Strength, Defense |

It must be noted that the increase/decrease you recieve to the skills is dependant on your level so may not be exactly the same as shown in the table above.
