Disease in Farming

by: Mark

Obviously you want to get as little as possible crops/trees diseased and thereby yielding more experience and greater harvests.

There are 4 ways to protect your crops from disease:
- (Super)compost
- Flowers / scarecrow
- Hiring a farmer
- Watering them

Flowers:
Near each allotment patch there is a flower patch. Fully grown flowers help protect your crops from disease. Just let the flowers stay in the patch, don't pick them, and they will protect your crops.

Marigolds protect:
- Potatoes
- Onions
- Tomatoes

Rosemary protects:
- Cabbages

Nasturtium protects:
- Watermelons

Scarecrow:

Sweetcorn attracts birds, you can scare those by placing a scarecrow in an empty flower patch.

How to make a scarecrow:
1. Fill an empty vegetable sack with straw from a bail (near every farm there are hay bails, use the sack with those to fill it).
2. Drive the hay sack onto a bronze spear.
3. Place a watermelon on top as a head.
4. Stand the scarecrow in an empty flower patch.

Notes:
- Scarecrows are NOT tradeable.
- You can dig it up, and place it in another patch.
- Bronze spears are dropped by hobgoblins. Or if you've done the Tai Bwo Wannai Trio quest, talk to Tamayu at Tai Bwo Wannai. He sells bronze spears (kp) and cleaning cloths.

Watering:
If you water your flowers and vegetables regularly, they are less likely to get diseased. Water them when you don't see water in the patch.

To treat disease:

Have your crops/trees got diseased? dont worry there is a way to cure them.

Plant cure is for the smaller crops:
- Vegetables
- Hops
- Flowers
- Herbs

A pair of secateurs, to prune away diseased leaves, is for the larger things:
- Bushes
- Trees
- Fruit trees

If you don't treat your crops, they will die. So keep them healthy.

If you crops have died, you will have to use a spade with the dead crops to remove them. Please note: left clicking on the spade will activate the 'dig' option and not the 'use' option.
