Fishing Basics
Fishing in Runescape offers an easy way to get food in order to help you train.
There are quite a few fishing spots located throughout Runescape and a variety
of ways that you can fish. All items needed for fishing can be bought from
fishing stores.
As you gain more levels in fishing the rate at which you
catch fish will increase as well as the variety of fish available to be caught.
Non-members have less fish and fishing methods available to them than members.
The higher your fishing level will also enable you to catch food that heals more
hitpoints and is therefore more useful for training and trading with other
players.
There are various types of fishing available.
Small
Net Fishing - located along coasts and a small net will be required. Shrimp
will be the initial fish that you can catch but as you grow in fishing levels
the variety of fish available to catch will increase. Sea creatures that can be
caught with a Small Fishing Net: Shrimp, Anchovies, Karambwanji and Frog Spawn
(for members-only).
Bait Fishing - found in many fishing
locations and you will need a fishing rod and fishing bait. 1 bait will be used
every time a fish is caught. Bait can be bought in shops or stocked from killing
monsters. You can begin baiting fish at Level 5. At this level you are able to
catch Sardines.
Fly Fishing - found in many river fishing
locations and you will need a fly fishing rod and some feathers. Similar to bait
fishing, one feather will be used each time you catch a fish. Feathers can be
bought in Fishing Stores and can be obtained from killing chickens. You need to
be level 20 to start fly fishing where you will be able to start fishing trout.
Later you will also be able to catch salmon.
Harpoon Fishing -
found in many sea fishing locations and obviously a harpoon is required. You can
start harpoon fishing at level 35 and initially will be able to catch only Tuna.
Later you can also catch Swordfish and Shark.
Lobster Fishing -
found in many sea fishing locations and a lobster pot will be required. You will
need level 40 fishing to catch lobster.
Big Net Fishing - (Members
Only) - similar to small net fishing buy a big net is required. You are able to
fish with a big net from level 16 fishing and can catch more than just fish.
Items you can catch with a big net are Caskets, Seaweed, Leather Gloves, Leather
Boots, Oysters, Mackerel, Cod and Bass.
Caskets - if you find a
casket while big net fishing you should open it as it contains an item.
Sometimes it may be useful but generally is not. You will receive 10 fishing exp
for receiving a casket. Caskets can contain many different items including
money, gems, talismans or even a half key.
Karambwan Vessel
Fishing - (Members Only) - the required items are Karamabwan Vessel and Raw
Karambwanji. You must have started the Tai Bwo Wannai Trio Quest to learn how to
fish for Karambwans. You can only catch Karambwans with the Karambwan vessel.
