Herblore Basics

by: Latona

To be able to do any herblore in Runescape you will have to have completed the Druidic Ritual Quest. Herblore is a members only skill and almost all the potions made are exclusively available on members servers apart from normal Strength Potions.

Herbs can be obtained by various methods.

1. Buying from other players
2. Gained from combat
3. Producing your own herbs (farming)

1. Buying from other players:

A lot of people spend time collecting up herbs to sell to others. It can be quite profiable for everyone involved in the process although can also be extremely costly on some herbs.

Generally buying from other players is the quickest way to getting a vast amount of herbs collected. You may buy the herbs as unidentified ( but careful of scams), or identified. Unidentified herbs generally will all cost the same whereas identified herbs will differ in price according to what type it is.

Initially you will not be able to identify many herbs but that will quickly change as you gain experience and increase your herblore level.

2. Gained from combat:

A second method of obtaining herbs is via combat. There are many monsters that will drop herbs with some having a higher drop rate than others. This is ideal for players wishing to train combat skills and obtain an income (if they sell the herbs). All herbs gained from monster drops will be unidentifed and as such will receive a set price as determined by the market at the time ( or by the person wishing to buy them).

Common monsters that drops herbs on a regular basis are:

* Men and Women
* Thugs
* Skeletons
* Chaos Druids
* Slayer Monsters

3.Producing your own herbs (Farming):

A third method for stocking herbs is to grow your own. This has the added benefit of yielding farming experience as you stockpile.

It will also give you more control over the herbs that you will work with as you will simply plant the herb seed of your choice and you are guaranteed that when the herb patch is grown you will yield only the herb type that was planted. This is a great way to specialise in a small amount of herbs (high paying potions).
