Using Herblore in Runescape

by: Latona

Herblore in runescape is a skill that can be very expensive to gain experience in when you get to higher levels. It is not just the cost of herbs, but the additional cost for secondary ingredients in making the potions. Supply and demand can play a great role in this so the cost involved in herblore can vary greatly from person to person. Generally, the more work you put into collecting resources required, the less overall cost you will incur. Farming skill can greatly benefit herblorists as this offers a valuable way to grow specific herbs that you have control over and as such mean you can easily stockpile the secondary ingredient yourself which will severely reduce the costs.

Level: Activity: Useful For:
Level 5 Making Anti-Poison Making money

Level 12 Making Strength Potions Non-Member Wilderness
Level 38 Making Prayer Potions Making Money

Fighting High-Level Monsters
Level 55 Super Strenth Potions Making Money
Member Wilderness
Level 63 Snapdragon Making Money

Level 5 Herblore:

At level 5 herblore members are able to make Anti-Poison potions. Marrentil used in making the potion is often discarded by higher level players. Anti-poison potions are required when fighting some monsters or when fighting against other players in the wilderness. There is some demand for this among players who frequently fight Kalphites while training their Slayer skill or when fighting the Kalphite Queen. There is some potential for making money although the market is normally slow, making anti-poison potions is one useful way for low level herblorists to increase their experience in this skill.

Level 12 Herblore:

At level 12 herblore members are able to make normal strength potions which are useful to help people with training and especially while fighting other players in the wilderness on non-member worlds. Demand for these will again generally be limited to Pkers and usually located around Edgeville bank is the best place for selling these.

Level 38 Herblore:

At level 38 herblore members are able to make Prayer Potions. This is likely one of the most useful herblore levels for both experience and the potential for making money. When the secondary ingredient, snape grass, has been collected and stocked along with the actual Ranarr Weed, then there is plenty of opportunities to make a good income. Prayer potions are always in demand from all players for various reasons. Player Killers on member worlds normally will always have at least 1 Prayer Potion with them on a trip into the wilderness while other players will often use Prayer Potions for fighting high level monsters such as the Kalphite Queen.

Level 55 Herblore:

At level 55 herblore members are able to make Super Strength Potions. There is good experience and potential money making associated with producing Super Strength potions provided you are well stocked on secondary ingredients of Limpwurt Roots. The Super Strength potion is used by virtually all people who go into the wilderness on member servers and also most high level players when they are training combat or fighting high level monsters.

Level 63 Herblore:

At level 63 herblore members are able to make Super Restore potions. These can fetch similar prices to Prayer potions and are therefore potentially a good source to make money from. In addition they also give higher experience rewards for making the potion so are very useful for herblore. If you can farm your own Snapdragon herbs then you will be well on your way to making a good income.
