Melee Tips

by: Latona

Melee is probably the most desired combination of skills in runescape that players want to get as high as possible. Melee is a combination of attack, strength, defense and hitpoint skills that give an overall combat level. Melee is also a very easy group of skills to train, although using the correct style of combat is important if players wish to raise only one particular melee skill element.

Melee Levelling Tips:

  • Level 1 - 10 players should use the dummy at Varrock opposite the east bank. Players can also fight low level monsters such as chickens and cows.
  • Level 11- 30 players can continue fighting cows and banking the cow hides for later use or for selling. Barbarians may also prove to be useful to levelling up melee when you can comfortably kill them. Al-Kharrid fighters are popular with non-members but it should be noted that you can be attacked by more than one at the same time so you will need to position yourself correctly to ensure only one is attacking you at any time.
  • Level 31 - 50 players can look at fighting any level monster upto level 20. This will ensure they stand a good chance of hitting the monster and a lower risk of dying from being hit by the monster.
  • Level 51- 90 players can continue fighting city guards and may consider moving onto lesser demons and other monsters or specific locations such as at the Ice Queen Warriors. Hill giants prove to be quite popular for people at level 51+ combat. Members will have much more choice available and any monster half your current combat level can provide an ideal training monster.
  • Level 91+ is really when any monster is viable to train against. The main thing is to make sure you have sufficient food when fighting any higher level monsters.

Melee Experience Tips:

  • Always fight with a quick weapon. The quicker you attack (and do damage) to opponents, the quicker you will gain experience.
  • Fighting controlled will train Attack, Defense, Hitpoints and Strength at the same rate of 1.3 experience per damage point done.
  • Fighting in Accurate style will train your Attack level and give 4 experience points for each point of damage done.
  • Fighting in Aggressive style will train your Strength level and give 4 experience points for each point of damage done.
  • Fighting in Defensive style will train your Defense level and give 4 experience points for each point of damage done.
  • The amount of hitpoints an opponent has will determine how much experience you get from killing it. An opponent with 100 hitpoints will give you a total of 520 melee experience with 130 experience going to your hitpoints level and the remaining 390 experience being split depending on which style of fighting you choose.

Runescape Money Tips by Melee:

  • Collecting all stackable items from monster drops can accumulate into a healthy profit over time.
  • Fighting monsters that drop items with a value of 300gp or more almost every time can enable you to cast high alchemy on the item and make a considerable amount of money over time.
  • Slayer monsters provide unique drops that are in reasonable demand and can make good money when finding the right buyer.
  • Always pick up coin drops. Many small coin drops a day can lead to a large amount of coins over time.

Other Runescape Melee Tips:

  • When training melee always aim to fight monsters at around half your combat level who are less likely to kill you.
  • Watch your hitpoints closely when fighting monsters that can hit 10 or more in one round.
  • Always have some food in your inventory for emergencies.
  • Wearing a ring of wealth may benefit you in monster drops although high valued items will drop rarely even when wearing the ring.
  • Using potions can boost your stats and help you kill monsters quicker and do more damage per successful hit.
  • High melee skills will help players defeat the Kalphite Queen or other high level monsters more easily when they go Kalphite Queen Hunting.
