Mining Tips

by: Latona

Mining Levelling Tips:

  • Level 1 - 20 suggested to mine copper and tin ore at a mine close to a bank. Members have more options than non-members.
  • Level 21 - 60 players should mine iron and stockpile it in their banks.
  • Level 60 - 85 players should use the mining guild for coal + mithril.
  • Alternatively, players can keep mining iron from level 21 to level 85 as iron will be able to be mined quicker.
  • Level 85+ is when players can mine rune. Non-members would have more risks associated with this as the rune rocks are located in high level wilderness while members have some alternative areas to mine rune ores at. Mining the ores will be relatively slow and the respawn rate means you may either switch server often or cast high alchemy while waiting for the rock to respawn.
  • Members may wish to change to mining granite and sandstone from level 50 mining. They will need to drop the ores mined but this can still ensure quicker experience gained overall.

Mining Experience Tips:

  • Each iron ore will give 35 mining experience and as your mining level increases the rate at which you mine iron ore will also increase. This can mean significant experience rates per hour compared to higher resources like coal and mithril that both offer higher mining experience per ore.
  • Both sandstone and granite mining is randomly given for different sizes of ores. Small, medium and large will give different experience. The higher your mining level the more likely you are to get the large pieces and thereby the better experience.
  • Rune ore will give 125 experience per ore but is very slow to mine. Should be avoided if you are just wanting to train mining levels.

Runescape Money Tips by Mining:

  • Bank all iron ores as over time they will add up and can bring in a good price in bulk. On member servers bulk iron ore prices can be expected to be 100gp each easily.
  • Coal is always in demand and when supplied in bulk to a buyer in desperate need can fetch high prices of 200gp per ore on member servers.
  • Gold ore is not the quickest to mine but due to being able to change the family crest quest gauntlets it is now in much greater demand and can fetch very good prices starting at 300gp per ore and rising significantly depending on the urgency of the buyer.
  • Rune ore, although slow to mine can provide a high quality income over time. Especially beneficial for members who do not need to take the risks non-members need to take in the wilderness.

Other Runescape Mining Tips:

  • Mine on busy servers to ensure ores respawn quickly.
  • Always try and mine relatively close to a bank if you can to stockpile ores for selling or using in the future.
  • When you reach the level to use a rune pickaxe then always use the rune one to maximise your mining rate per hour.

You can reach at least level 15 mining without mining a single ore. Completing the f2p quest "Doric's Quest" awards you 1300 mining exp. It is a good quest to do when you first start out as it gets you quick mining levels but also grants you access to Doric's anvils located North_west of Falador.
