Mining Basics

by: Latona

Mining is a fundamental skill within Runescape. It is a main source of income for thousands of players and there is always a demand for more ores to help raise players smithing levels.

There are many mining sites located throughout Runescape and to find out which rocks contain what ores simply right click on the rock and choose prospect rocks. The rocks are also different colours so you will be able to tell which colour represents which ore when you gain some further knowledge.

To start mining you will require a pickaxe and as your minin level increases you will be able to wield better pickaxes that will enable you to mine rocks quicker.

The table below shows the pickaxe and the level required to mine with it.

Pickaxe: Level: Cost:
Bronze 1 1gp
Iron 1 140gp
Steel 6 500gp
Mithril 21 1300gp
Adamant 31 3200gp
Rune 41 32000gp

Mining Guild:

Level 60 mining is required to enter the mining guild. It is a great source of coal as it is relatively close to Falidor bank. There are also 5 mitril rocks located in the guild although the main benefit is the amount of coal rocks.
