Runecrafting Basics

In order to be able to start runecrafting in Runescape you will have to have completed the Rune Mysteries quest to gain access to the Rune Essence Mine. To runecraft higher runes there will be other requirements although initially you will only be able to runecraft Air Runes.

There are various ways to access the rune altars. Players that want to access the rune altars through the mysterious ruins need a matching talisman (or tiara). However, players using the Abyss to runecraft do not need a talisman or tiara to access rune altars.

To runecraft you will need rune essence, either normal or pure. Pure essence will enable you to make the higher level runes as well as the basic runes, while normal essence will enable you to make the 6 basic runes that can be made on non-member servers. Simply goto the altar of the rune you wish to make and craft the essence to convert it to your choice of runes.

Players can mine both types of essence at the same place as before. The type of essence received is automatically decided when you mine the rock. Players will always get pure essence if their mining is over 30 and they are on a members' world, otherwise normal essence is received.

1.Wizard Sedridor - Basement of The Wizards Tower
2.Aubury - The Magic Shop in Varrock
3.Wizard Cromperty - East Ardougne, north-east of the market place.
4.Wizard Distentor - The Magic Guild in Yanille.
5.Brimstail the gnome - A cave inside a large hollow rock at the Tree Gnome Stronghold
