Slayer Basics

The slayer skill in Runescape will require you to make use of any and all fighting techniques but will not actually affect your combat level itself. You may melee, range or mage slayer monsters and gain experience in the chosen area at the same time as gaining slayer experience.

The amount of slayer experience you receive for kill a monster will depend on the monsters base hitpoint level. The more hitpoints a monster has the more slayer experience you will receive. It should be noted that you will only gain slayer experience when you are actually assigned a slayer task from any one of 5 slayer masters located throughout runescape.

Slayer Assignments:

There are 5 slayer masters located throughout Runescape. Each master is aimed towards different combat levels and will assign tasks on that basis. The slayer gem will tell you the most appropriate slayer master to use for your current combat level.

To get a slayer assignment simply speak to one of the slayer masters. Each task you receive will be upto 200 monsters (depending on the slayer master used). You may only do one slayer task at a time and if you wish to change a task then you will need to speak to the Slayer Master at Burnthrope. Although if it was that master you originally got your task from then you will be unable to change.

Once you have completed an assignment you can simply return to any slayer master to get another task. It must be noted as well that slayer experience will only be awarded if you kill a monster on a member server otherwise it will just be normal experience awarded in melee, range or mage.

Slayer Equipment:

Some slayer monsters will require specific equipment in order to kill them or you may be required to wear equipment so you are not affected by them. If you go on a task without the correct equipment you will either take substantial damage or be unable to deliver a killing blow. Consult the tables below and ensure you have the right equipment with you when slaying any of the Slayer Specific monsters that require special items.
