Using Slayer in Runescape

by: Latona

The slayer skill offers a varied way to train your characters combat level in runescape. Players can choose which style of fighting they prefer, whether it is melee, mage or ranged as well as having the ability to change any given task provided it has not been changed previously or the task is not offered by the lowest level slayer master. Many people do not bother training slayer, but there are some unique drops that can still fetch a decent price and therefore slayer offers a way to make money within runescape.

Level: Activity: Useful For:
Level 15 Banshee Rune Essence
Herbs
Level 40 Basilisk Water Runes
Training Melee
Level 50 Bloodveld Blood Runes
Slayer Experience
Level 65 Dust Devil Chance of Dragon Chain
Good Slayer Experience
Level 85 Abyssal Demon Whip Drops to make cash
Rune Essence Drops

Level 15 Slayer:

At level 15 Slayer members will be able to fight Banshee. They are useful to fight against for low level players and can earn some considerable money. Banshee regularly drop 13 pure essence or an unidentified herb. If training on Banshee, then gradually players can accumulate a considerable amount of pure rune essence or unidentified herbs. Pure rune essence can sell for upto 95gp each in bulk and depending on the drops, all members can earn quite well from only having level 15 slayer.

Level 40 Slayer:

At level 40 Slayer members will be able to fight the Basilisk. These creatures are nice and easy to train against as they rarely hit you and they do drop a reasonable amount of nature runes and water runes. However, you should always ensure that you fight the Basilisk with a Mirror Shield equipped. Failing to equip a mirror shield can lead to very quick attacks from the Basilisk which lower all of your stats and almost certainly result in your characters death. Overall, the Basilisk would suit mid-level players as a nice training monster.

Level 50 Slayer:

At level 50 Slayer members will be able to fight Bloodveld. The Bloodveld are a very easy monster to fight with ample safe spots to enable all types of training - mage, melee and range. They also give 120 slayer experience each and have a decent drop rate for blood runes.

Level 65 Slayer:

At level 65 Slayer members will be able to fight Dust Devils provided they have reached the required part in the Desert Treasure Quest. Dust Devils do have a slim chance of dropping the much desired Dragon Chain - as well as other dragon items. Dust Devils also drop a large amount of fire runes and have a good drop rate for rune arrows. My advice is all players should aim to get at least level 65 slayer so they can try their luck and you never know - they may just get lucky and land the illusive Dragon Chain.

Level 85 Slayer:

At level 85 Slayer members will finally be able to fight Abyssal Demons and therefore have a chance to get their own Abyssal Whip. The Abyssal Whip is one of the best, if not the best, weapons currently on Runescape. In addition to the Abyssal Whip, players can also get numerous other good items such as Dragon items and rune items.
