Smithing Tips

Smithing Levelling Tips:
- Level 1 - 15 smelt and smith bronze items. It doesn't really matter much as the aim is simply to get to level 15.
- Level 15 - 40 smelt and smith iron ores and bars. Members are able to smith items that can be sold provided they have completed the relevant quests in order to be able to make the items (knives, darts etc)
- Level 30 - 99 non-members can smelt steel and smith into steel plates up to level 99 if they wish.
- Level 40 - 99 members can use goldsmith gauntlets to get extra experience from smelting gold ores. The gauntlets are a reward from the Family Crest Quest.
- Level 75 - 99 members can decide to make adamant arrow tips to coincide with their fletching skill. This is good if you have a stock of Adamantite bars or have good suppliers.
Smithing Experience Tips:
- Smelting and smithing 1 iron ore and bar will give 37.5 experience points. Iron is always in demand and there is a high supply of iron ore so constant experience is easily obtained.
- Members who smelt their own steel bars and smith into cannonballs will get 42.5 experience each. Steel is always in demand and there are an adequate number of suppliers in the marketplace to enable steady experience to be gained.
- Members who use goldsmith gauntlets will be able to smelt their gold ores for 56.2 experience each. This is much higher than the 22 experience offered without the gauntlets and that can only be gained by non-members. The problem here is the supply of gold ore is quite often limited so players should stock up a considerable amount of ores before embarking on this method of raising their smithing level.
- Players who can smelt rune ore may consider superheating the ores for other people. They will simply exchange their rune bars ( or items) for a similar value of rune ores, the necessary coal and 1 nature rune per runite ore to cover the superheating process.
- Steel bodyplates offer quick experience for players investing in their smithing with 187 experience per plate.
Runscape Smithing Money Making Tips:
- Non-members are serverly limited in what they can produce for profit on non-member servers. Generally it will not be until they can make rune hatchets that there is any real money making opportunities if they prefer to smith their bars.
- Non-members can make money from smithing if they perform the role of a smelter of steel. Steel bars can easily sell for 600gp in bulk and that is sufficient to cover the cost of the raw materials - 2 coal and 1 iron ore per steel bar.
- Members have a lot more opportunity to make money from smithing. The more of the resources they supply themselves and the more effort they put into smithing, the higher amount of profit will be made. Iron knives can be a good source of income for lower level smithers and may fetch prices of 40gp each which is the equivalent of 200gp per iron bar used.
- Members can make cannonballs and make money even if they simply buy the steel bars. There is a constant demand for cannonballs especially among players who are training their slayer.
- Level 97 smithing can provide a good income from smithing rune kites. There is a high demand for this and plenty of scope for profit even if having to buy in the rune ores or bars.
Other Runescape Smithing Tips:
- Always wear goldsmith gauntlets if you are a member and smithing gold ores.
- A ring of forging will enable members to make 140 iron bars from each ring without any impure iron.
- Non-members should not make iron at all, they should wait until they can make steel bars and prevent themselves having any impure iron.
- Dwarven Stout will increase your smithing level by 1 while mature stout will increase it by 2 for a short time.
- Always smelt bars close to a bank to reduce running time and conserve energy.
- If superheating any ores then superheat them while standing in the bank so you can quickly bank and restock ores to be superheated
