Smelting Ores

by: Latona

The most common way to smelt ores into bars is by using a furnace. Al-Kharid is quite a useful furnace to use as it is relatively close to the bank although there are many other furnaces located throughout Runescape.

An alternative way to smelt ores is to use level 43 magic spell. This will give a 100% chance of converting iron ore but also has the benefit of being able to stand and smelt directly in any bank. It is especially useful for smelting Adamantite and Runite ores where your inventory space will only allow 3 of each ore and the coal required per trip.

The table below shows what is required to make each bar on runescape and the experience gained from smelting the resources.

Bar: Level: Primary Ore: Secondary Ore: Experience:
Bronze 1 Copper Tin 6
Iron * 15 Iron - 12.5
Elemental* 20 Elemental 4 Coal 7.5
Silver 20 Silver - 13.7
Steel 30 2 Coal Iron 17.5
Gold * 40 Gold - 22.5
Mithril 50 Mithril 4 Coal 30
Adamantite 70 Adamantite 6 Coal 37.5
Runite 85 Runite 8 Coal 50

* Notes:
- Iron ore has a 50% success rate of being smelted. A ring of forging can be used if smelting iron ore to give 100% rate for 140 ores per ring.
- Elemental ore can smelted during and after completion of Elemental Workshop Quest.
- Gold can be smelted with Goldsmith Gauntlets for 56.2 exp per ore. The Goldsmith Gauntlets are obtained from the Family Crest Quest.
