Using Smithing in Runescape

by: Latona

Smithing on runescape is among my favourite skills. Smithing offers all players a way to make their own equipment upto rune. This can be profitable and useful, whether you are a pure skill orientated player or a combat orientated player. The smithing process is strightforward but some dedicaion will be required to achieve the ultimate level of 99 smithing.

Level: Activity: Useful For:
Level 22 Iron Knives Making Money
Easy Experience
Level 35 Cannonballs Making Money
Steady Experience
Level 40 Gold Ore Fast Experience
Level 85 Smelting Rune Making Money
Constant Experience
Level 99 All Rune Equipment Making Money

Level 22 Smithing:

At level 22 smithing members will be able to smith Iron Knives. The knives can be used to help you train your ranging skill or alternatively sold to other players who are set on trainin their range skill. Non-members will not be able to smith knives and for them they should continue until level 30 making any bronze or iron items where they can switch to smelting steel and not risk having any iron ore turn impure.

Level 35 Smithing:

At level 35 smithing members can make cannonballs at a furnace provided they have completed the required quest and subsequently obtained a cannonball mould. The process itself is not extremely quick or is it the best possible smithing experience per bar. The main reason for smithing cannonballs is primarily for generating money within runescape. Members can easily buy steel bars and earn a profit from taking a bit of time to smelt into cannonballs. Non-members on the other hand, can take advantage and produce steel bars to supply the necessary steel bars for members who wish to make cannonballs.

Level 40 Smithing:

At level 40 smithing members have the advantage of being able to use Goldsmith Gauntlets obtained during the Family Crest Quest. These gauntlets let you get 56.2 experience for each gold ore smelted. This means that a lot of experience can be gained quite quickly, although the cost of gold ores have increased since Jagex allowed players to change the reward gauntlets. It is unadvisable for non-members to smelt gold ore as it is costly and will only provide 22 experience each ore on non-member servers.

Level 85 Smithing:

At level 85 smithing both members and non-members are able to smelt rune ore. Generally merchants will seek out high level smithers to smelt a lot of rune ore for them. This is beneficial to the smither because it means magic experience can be gained at the same time through Superheating the rune ore. Smithers may charge for this service and therefore make some money, although it is normally provided free due to the combined magic and smithing experience that is received. The merchant will always be expected to provide all the raw materials that includes the rune ores, 8 coal for each rune ore supplied and 1 nature rune for every ore supplied.

Level 99 Smithing:

At level 99 smithing players have reached the most useful level as they can now be self-sufficient in replacing their basic equipment should they lose it. In addition, many player killers will also seek out a high level smither to provide them basic equipment for the wilderness. Many merchants and low level players will also seek higher level smithers as they require items that they cannot yet make themselves. Overall, a smither can make plenty of money from level 99 smithing if they decide to provide that service to others. Some smithers may decide to get 85 mining as well and simply sell full rune sets that they have collected the resources for and thereby making a decent profit from utilising two skills.
