Firstly, players should properly equip themselves with appropriate mage gear. The type of gear chosen will depend whether you are a member or non-member. Basically any equipment that gives you a mage bonus is sufficient to train your magic skill using combat spells. The higher the mage bonus the better.

Next, players should ensure they take an adequate supply of the runes they plan to use to level up their magic skill. Again this will depend on the person who is training their magic.

Players can take telegrab runes with them in order to grab any drops they wish to save, although there are not many worthy drops from the hobgoblins apart from Limpwurt Roots that may be used by members in the herblore skill.

Finally, head to the cow field beside the crafting guild and take up your training position. This area can become quite busy at times, but is a good place to train when you can continually attack the hobgoblins located over the river.
