Runescape Wilderness Overiew

by: FF9 Warrior

Once upon a time the whole of Runescape used to be what we now call theWilderness. This meant that players could go around attacking other players as they pleased. As time went on, the game was changed so that only a section of the Runescape world was one able to fight another player for their items.

The Wilderness was a very popular place. The concept was that if one player attacked another player, the attacking player gained a skull above their head, addressing them as a PKer (Player Killer). The skull would stay for twenty minutes after the attack. If that player died within those twenty minutes, they would lose all of their items instead of only their three most valuable items.

The Wilderness had 55 levels to it. The level a player was in decided the maximum and minimum combat levels of his opponents. For example, if a level 60 player was standing in level 10 Wilderness; this player could attack or be attacked by anyone between levels 50 to 70.

Runescape Wilderness Today:

Today, over three years after the Wilderness became popular, the same concept remains. What I had previously described was renamed to Runescape Classic, as the current Runescape was brought out of beta. At this point the PKing triangle was introduced. It was said that:

  • Warriors have the advantage over Rangers
  • Rangers have the advantage over Mages
  • And Mages have the advantage over Warriors

Although the same rules apply from Runescape Classic, the Wilderness is a very different place. Multi-attack zones were introduced, players could now run from fights before having to wait three rounds, and the Wilderness had a whole new look.

Triangle of Balance:
Overall known as the PKing triangle, this idea was introduced to bring balance into the wilderness. It was designed so that each class had an advantage over another class, and a disadvantage from the other. Rangers had the advantage over Mages, Mages had the advantage over Warriors, and Warriors had the advantage over Rangers.

Thus, hybrids were born. A player could melee in ranger gear, so that mages wouldn't be able to hit as often. Or more commonly, a player could melee and mage while only having to sacrifice five inventory spaces. This way they could have an advantage over all other players considering they don't slip up.

Runescape Wilderness Overview:

Stretching from the east of Edgeville to the far west of Varrock, from level 1 to level 55, the Wilderness is not a small place. It is home to one of Runescape's strongest monsters, the King Black Dragon, as well as many more combat-worthy creatures. It also contains the entrance to the Abyss, where one can travel quickly to any runecrafting alter via the correct rift.

Runescape Wilderness - King Black Dragon:

The King Black Dragon - this creature can be found in its lair just west of the Lava Maze in level 42 Wilderness.

King Black Dragon Lair

Runescape Wilderness - Green Dragon Locations:

Green Dragons - there are three places in the Wilderness where Green Dragons can be found, one of them being south west of the Dark Knight Fortress, in level 22ish Wilderness.

Green Dragons Location 1

The second location is north of the Graveyard and south of the Ruins. They are in level 23/24 Wilderness.

Green Dragons Location 2

The final location is just south of the Lava Maze in level 37 Wilderness.

Green Dragons Location 3

Runescape Wilderness - The Abyss:

The Abyss - you can only use the Abyss if you have completed the Rune Mysteries mini-quest. You can go there by right clicking on the Zamorak mage and choosing the teleport option.

Jagex recently updated the wilderness and now the only place (at this time), where you can attack other players is in the bounty hunter area.
